Birkenside Cottage is a haven of peace and tranquillity in the heart of the Scottish Borders. The house offers two double bedrooms, one bathroom, a modern kitchen and comfortable living room. Set on either side of a traditional chimney, the kitchen and living room feature wood burning stoves, bringing warmth and cosiness to both spaces. The garden is generous, and borders a forestry reserve on three sides, and fields on the other. There are no neighbours, no one overlooking, no noise to mar your peace bar bird song and the breeze in the trees, no artificial lights to cloud the night skies, no one around but you, the birds and the odd shy rabbit or deer.
OFF GRID LIVING WITH LUXURY TRAPPINGS
The cottage is entirely off grid. Our water is sourced from a natural spring and cleaned with a UV filter, our electricity comes from a battery and diesel generator, our central heating is oil-powered, and our gas stove is supplied by canisters of calor gas. Despite this seemingly rough and ready set-up, the cottage offers all the comforts one would require for luxury living - fully stocked modern kitchen, hot water and central heating on demand, fresh linens and gorgeous furnishings, high speed wifi, flat screen smart TV, and more besides. We have tried hard to think of everything to make your stay easy and comfortable.
A CHILDRENS' PARADISE
The cottage is a family home, and the garden is a paradise for children. Build a den in the woods, sail the seven seas in our bath tub boat, fight off intruders from our treehouse, whiz through the woods on the flying fox, look up at the trees from the hammock or climb, swing and slide on our climbing frame. Set up a game of badminton on the lawn, try your hand at petanque, or have an epic game of hide and seek in the cottage grounds and surrounding woods. Experiencing some trademark Scottish weather? Explore the offering of games and toys inside - set up a game of ten pin bowling, challenge dad to a chess match, try your hand at a puzzle or get everyone in on snakes and ladders.

Underexplored, unsung and often overlooked, the Scottish Borders is home to breathtaking scenery, beautiful stately homes, ruined abbeys and castles, and delightful gardens. It offers an idyllic base for history buffs, textile enthusiasts, cyclists, walkers, horticulturalists, gourmets, adventurers, explorers and escapists.
Key Features
We wanted to get away for Hogmany to somewhere peaceful and secluded to just relax for a couple of days with no distractions, and that is what we got. We both loved the cottage in the woods.
It has the best kitchen, huge garden where we saw an amazing display of the northern lights in a sky full of stars and the cosiest fire to warm up after being outside.
This is really a lovely place to get away from it all and enjoy some quiet time.
